Creating quality examples
If you want quality content—and a little extra revenue—take better screenshots.
Before I joined InVision, all visuals in our user-facing docs were screenshots and videos taken from employee accounts. While this was a quick way to add context to written documentation, it presented several issues:
It created security vulnerabilities by exposing private information and feature flags
Visual assets were inconsistent and unprofessional
None of the accounts contained enough content to showcase a “real” user account
To solve this, I created accounts with example users, assets, and account information. We were now protected from simple security threats, and we upleveled the professionalism of our documentation. This change was so effective that our VP of sales repurposed these example assets to win prospects and onboard new clients. This resulted in an increase in ARR for the company.
